We have them here in PA and call them "Stinkbugs." Not sure what they're correct name is. They came over from Asia a few years ago and they're everywhere now. As far as I know, they have no natural predators in the US. They're slow moving, but they do fly short bursts. I usually just help them crawl onto a piece of paper then fling them outside. Whatever you do, do not crush them inside of your house - very bad smell. I'm not sure that pest control companies will treat for them. Last I heard was that nothing really worked against them. Ditto on the stinkbug nickname. I don't know about them coming over from Asia a few years ago though. I remember them being here, or at least in San Antonio, back when I was a kid in the 1950's.

I did crush one and didn't smell anything. Maybe it was too young. They're irritating, but I'm glad they're not ticks! I had visions of Rocky Mount Fever and Lyme Disease and my poor cats.

There are bugs in Austin that look like stink bugs but have no particular smell when crushed. We encountered them a lot in South Austin. They were actually a bit larger than the real stink bugs we have here in Delaware. However, they are no doubt related, as the above article indicates. I don't ever recall encountering an actual stink bug in 22 years of living in Austin. Also stink bugs get in one's house all the time, especially in the cold months, but these similar bugs in Austin don't seem to come inside so frequently; rather, I used to see them outside the garage two different places we lived there (Shady Hollow and Barton Hills).
