The weather has been so NICE lately that I have an itch to fill a few pots with some pretty flowers. Does anyone have any recommendations for a local greenhouse where I can buy a flat or 2 of flowers? I would prefer to stay away from the big box stores and stay local. I live in Oak Hill.....so something close would be great.

Thank you in Advance!

I see you don't like big box stores but some of them give you a money back guarantee for anything that dies within the first year.

How about The Natural Gardener? That's in Oak Hill.

Barton Springs Nursery over in Westlake on Bee Caves.

I agree with the advice that big box stores aren't the worst for getting plants--particularly when the plants are guaranteed. We've had very good luck getting plants at Lowes and other such places and they buy some of their stock from local vendors as it is.

The big box stores do offer guarantees, but often the people working there are not helpful with picking plants that will fit your growing conditions. They often do not carry native plants, and sometimes will even be selling plants that are dangerous to Texas natives (invasive exotics.) I would go to the Natural Gardener and let them help you find plants that will actually thrive in your conditions and be a productive part of the ecosystem as well. The bonus is that they will probably need less water to do well.

Absolutely! The Natural Gardener: Organic Gardening Headquarters They have a great nursery. I hear it has been really busy on weekends.

John Dromgoole, the owner, appears regularly on the Central Texas Gardener television show on PBS.

I went to the Great Outdoors and Barton Springs Nursery this week and have been to the Natural Gardener in the past. I think I prefer Barton Springs. It has a wide variety of large and small perennials, vines, trees, etc. They seemed to have everything I was looking for and the prices were good.

My vote is Natural Gardener (it gets crowded in weekends, though!). And Great Outdoors for when I can't find something in Natural Gardener (usually because it sold out).

Natural Gardener is pretty cool. Approaches something of an "experience" rather than just a store, due to the garden and animals they have there. My girls love the swing.
