Default Austin sports

Hi, we are new to Austin from Corpus. It's so different here but we are really enjoying it. I can't believe I'm going to say this but I miss the humidity!
We are looking for a team sport my son can enroll in. I think we missed all the registrations and seasons have already started. I was thinking basketball but there doesn't seem to be many teams. I talked to some mom's and they say their kids play "select". I don't think we're ready for the select teams yet, LOL. Seems that's what everyone does. My son is a typical 9 year old, he likes to play sports but he is by no means an all-star. Even though he's meeting kids at school, I think being in a sport would help build those friendships. Anyone know of any teams out there? We are in Round Rock if that helps any. Thanks!

We used to live in Round Rock. Football is what helped my son transition and really made a big difference in his confidence at school. Especially jersey days! Moving is hard at that age, kids are a little harsher. Round Rock has quite a few football teams but signups aren't probably til April or May. If you have missed the signups for the other sports, you can always check at the Y (http://www.ymcagwc.org/chasco/index.php - broken link)MCA as they also do sports. I think also the Clay Madsen Ctr? You also might want to check Austin Athlete (http://www.austinathleteonline.com/forums/forum.php - broken link)Online. We did the Y and it really helped just getting our son comfortable with some faces that he would also see at school. I tried to post links to help you, not sure if I did it right. Good luck!

At that age he can do almost anything. Football, baseball, soccer, basketball, swimming. Summer is coming so summer league swimming will be starting soon. Should be lots of places to do that in Round Rock.

I know it was hot and dry today (90 degrees, 19% humidity) but tonight will be 55 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to be drier. You'll get used to it and in the summer, you'll understand why 105 degrees here is like 88 in Corpus.

As to the leagues, I missed the Spring leagues for my son too due to procrastinating. Hopefully I'll get him into some sports camps this summer and I won't miss the fall leagues. I won't let him do football in the fall though, I've read some studies that say children shouldn't play football until at least 14.
