I know that new vehicles in Texas aren't required to be inspected for 2 years but do they come with inspection stickers? I feel a bit dumb because I bought a new car in Feb and when my registration came in a few weeks ago I scraped off whatever sticker was there and put my registration sticker on. I thought it was a temporary registration sticker of some sort. Did I perhaps scrape the inspection sticker off my new car?

Just 'traded' my 3/11 inspection sticker that came on my vehicle purchased in 3/09. Yep, sounds like you got rid of the wrong sticker . Not sure how long you can 'get by'...just one more thing to explain if you ever get stopped. The registration sticker means your vehicle passed inspection(or they wouldn't allow the vehicle to be registered) BUT it will be pretty obvious to any LEO that it has 'gone missing'. You should have paperwork showing the original dealer inspection...hang on to that, for sure.

Pay the $14 and get a new inspection. The fine for not having an up-to-date inspection is $90. I don't know if that fine applies to not displaying the sticker, but you don't want to be told by a LEO that it does.

$28.00 in Travis and Williamson counties. Are you in a no emissions county?

After I posted this I found a picture I took of the car and sure enough I scraped off inspection sticker. I didn't even think about the whole Texas 2 sticker thing since my old state only had 1. Ok so I found this online

Have you accidently scraped off the wrong sticker from your windshield?
If your vehicle is registered in one of the emissions counties and you require an emissions sticker replacement you can obtain a replacement, for a reduced fee, from one of our DPS challenge/waiver stations. Give them a call to make an appointment and to obtain further details on obtaining your replacement.
If your vehicle is not registerd in one of the emissions counties, then you will have to get the vehicle reinspected at one of the local inspection stations in your area. Currently, there are no replacement procedures for non-emissions county motorists.
Note: Due to the increased inspection fee in emissions counties (up to $39.75 for the test as opposed to $14.50 in non-emissions counties) a replacement process was developed to reduce the financial burden on motorists. Replacement stickers are only valid for the remainder of time left on the old sticker.

I called the inspection sticker office and was told that the first two years inspection is a non emissions inspection so I should just go to a regular inspection place and pay $14.50 for a year or try to get another sticker from the dealer. I would rather pay $14.50 and spend 15 minutes at sticker stop than deal with the boneheads at the dealership.

Yes, Bexar doesn't have the emissions testing yet, but it's coming.
