Yep. Bubbas live in places like Brazoria and Freeport, Smithville, Alvin, etc...

I suppose they meant that your appearance was that of a laid back, relaxed really cool person, dressed casual but with a look of authenticity and earnest resolve.

If you're female you might be somewhat unshaven under the arms and have an "earth mama" vibe/look going on. If you're a dude, you might have looked like you slept in your clothes last night, but somehow you still looked good.

South Austin used to mean "Bubba" or "Redneck", but I think now, at least in the closer in Central areas, it's more of a bohemian thing.

That's my best stab at it, and I've lived in South Austin for 17 years.

So, if I call someone from the "westlakey" areas of SW Austin a
South Austin guy or gal, will they be offended?
