I've searched the pets section and a few other places, but can't find anything (even in the classifieds) for lost and found pets. FYI - I posted on craigslist for Austin but am noticing that merchants have absolutely no interest in maintaining an old-fashioned bulletin board to post flyers of this sort. There are other national online sites but I'm thinking that city-data would be a great, specific site for each city. Does the city-data/austin already have something? Thanks.

Btw, I lost my cat.

Your best bet is to put posters up in your neighborhood. You want folks that live next door or down the block knowing you lost a cat.

My posters are already littering the area, although our local grocery stores do not have bulletin boards. Since my cat has been missing for 4 weeks now, he could easily have hitched a ride unwillingly and be on the other side of Austin by now. Trust me, I'm doing everything I can (posters, vets, community emails, local pool club, etc), but thought a communal electronic lost and found for pets would serve all of us as well.

Thanks for the reply though, HappyTexan.

My opinion is that it wouldn't be very useful, sorry. Cities-Data forums are primarily about relocation and visiting different cities. The chances of anyone from your immediate neighborhood even reading such a notice seem pretty slim.

Microchipping and tagging your pets are the best way to get them returned if they wander away. And posters in the area are probably the only effective way of communicating with neighbors.

Yep, it really amazes me all the dogs and cats that are "lost" and listed on Craigslist with no micro-chip or collars. What are the chances of THAT many pets not being properly "tagged" in case they go lost?

While I hope to never lose my pet, I'm thankful he is chipped and always wears his collar with a tag that has my address and phone number on it.

what part of town do you live in? chances are if you live near a greenbelt your cat got eaten by a coyote.

C'mon y'all...somebody spammed a FOUR year-old thread.

And the OP never mentioned her cat again. Hope it ended well.
