Default Sell me on Circle C?

Okay I know I keep asking questions, but it's b/c I'm hesitate and buying in the right area is very important to me.

It seems like Circle C has everything we are looking for in our price range (up to $650,000): We want:

Newer construction
At least 4br/would like 5br
3500sq ft. or more
Community pool
Shorter commute to Downtown Austin
Family/Kid Friendly

But the only thing that makes me hesitate is the AISD school district! We are coming from Portland Oregon, and currently we are in a smaller school district that is supported by the parents/community, we only have 8 elementary schools. etc., Portland Public is a mess here and there is no way I'd put my kids in that school district...

I'd love to have Eanes school district or Lake Travis, but Eanes seems like Eanes we'd have to buy an older home for that price range, and Lake Travis seems like my husbands commute would be 45 minutes plus!

Help me!

AISD in Circle C is very good. The parents are very involved, and there is a large sense of community. Are you finding homes in Circle C at 650K? If not, consider Meridian. There are lots you can purchase and build custom. Meridian also has a brand new elementary school on site. Circle C is a fabulous community, and you wouldn't go wrong by buying in there. If schools are an issue, SW Austin is a good choice.

Why so far out? Circle C Meridian is 13.9 miles from downtown.

You could buy your own lot in Zilker, Barton Hills or Bouldin (all attending exemplary schools), and build a custom 5bdr house in any style you want for that price - and be 2 minutes from downtown, festivals, and the like.

Not sure you can build (you would have to tear down first) in that price range in those area, assuming you can find a lot with no restrictions against it. Might, though, not sure.

Hi Jenn. DM sent. You might like Lost Creek. It meets all your criteria except for being built in the 80's, however many of the homes have been updated significantly. DM includes a link to my house for sale.

I second Lost Creek. When we moved, our #1 criteria was that our new home NOT be in AISD. And we moved from the "good" schools in AISD (Hill Elementary, Murchison Middle School, and Anderson High School). IMO, even the "good" schools in Austin are not as good as schools outside of AISD. Also, the amount of political correctness and politics in AISD is insane. Grante,d you experience that everywhere, but they take it to the extreme at AISD.

If you choose to live in Austin, and don't care for AISD then private schools are an option as well. This opens up other neighborhoods in that price range:

The OP didn't ask about political correctness. If you read the OP's post, you would have realized the family is on that Portland-Austin circuit. So, chances are, they'd be into that 'pc and politics' you don't like.

Anyway, the difference between the AISD Bowie High tract, Eanes, and Lake Travis is 90% white, 95% white, and 85% white. I can't tell the difference, but that matters to some people. So there you go, have at it!

And the OP also said that "Portland Public (school district) is a mess." So that leads me to believe that maybe she is not that "into" all of the extraneous BS. And in case you haven't seen the news lately, AISD is not exactly a well-oiled machine either.

Race has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion. The supposedly "good" schools I chose to move away from were predominately white - and I still thought they weren't that great.
