Hi guys!

I just moved to Austin, so I'm still getting to know the people and the city. I'm in the film industry, although I'm still new at it, I've done loads of non-paid work on short films in Houston. I'm also interning now at a small production company here in Austin, but they don't work on films, more commercial clientele stuff.

I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can go to search for some paying film gigs, even if it's low-paying. Heck, even an internship at a film company would be great too. I don't want to have to go back to the restaurant industry to pay my rent. I really want to make it work with film. Any help/suggestions would be great! I've tried Craigslist, but I'm not getting a whole lot from them. Especially the ones that call for screenplays (which I have), but when I email to see any creds on them, I never get a response.

Start your own company and produce porn films. There are plenty of perverts out there wanting them. Besides Austin is full of politicians who are a good client base for purchasing them. Heck if you are discreet enough you can offer custom film service to politicians that want their own records of sexual escapades away from home! You can get top dollar and travel around with them filming their activities.

You can make tons of money with low overhead while you are working on another company to make real movies, films, etc.

I've used FMS Productions out of Georgetown before for films. Might contact them to see if they have any openings. They do professional, social-service type videos.

I wonder if you could start by being an extra on films being produced in Austin just so you could get to know people in the industry working on films. You could find out the production company names, get advice from people who are doing what you want to do? I don't really know the industry though I don't know if being known as an extra is a stigma.

Thanks for all your replies. Kiacook - I'm not looking for extras position. I'm a behind the scenes person. Thanks for your answer though. I'm trying to find local groups and such in order to meet people.

I get that you don't want to be an extra. I was suggesting it as a way to network.

It is maybe time to print some business cards and head out to ACL or SXSW and pass them out.
