Hi!
Does anyone know of any apartments above a store or restaurant of some sort that is available for rent?

I just thought it would be kinda fun to live above a place like that and work for the people who own them=)

That is sort of an old fashion notion, and not very common these days. But best wishes finding your imaginary dream.

I lived over a doughnut shop once in San Francisco. Gained weight too because I had to go downstairs and buy doughnuts every morning. Couldn't ignore the aroma!

+1 for such an unusual relocation request. I've seen all sorts of things on these forums, but this is a first.

Maybe try east central Austin? Definitely some commercial cooking companies and restaurants down there. If what you want exists in Austin, it's probably there.

This isn't that quaint, but many of the new mixed use condos/apts have retail on the ground floor. I know there are several on S. Congress and condos on S Lamar near Town Lake. Also downtown of course. Let me see if I can dig up some names...

Maybe:
Camden South Congress: 1007 S Congress
Greystar/SoCo Lofts South Congress

Not having very good luck finding web sites but if you drive down Congress, you'll see some options.

I've been wanting the same thing actually! Never would have considered it old fashioned though, just sort of practical.

Perhaps in Austin, this may be true. There are plenty of other cities that would provide this opportunity.

Worked for Neil Diamond...
Two floors above the butcher
First door on the right

Life filled to the brim
As I stood by my window
And I looked out of those
Brooklyn roads

Oops! Sorry...that's how they did it back in NYC(Fifty years ago)

Aren't some of the Mueller buildings set up that way?

Actually, it IS still very common. It's just not common in Austin - land of cookie cutter apartment complexes and strip malls.

Default condos near Sweetish Hill

There's a new, low-rise condo building just behind Sweetish Hill Bakery. It's at the end of the little parking lot next to Sweetish Hill on the alley that runs parallel to and north of West 6th, and some of the units are for rent according to signs I've seen on the property. You would not be directly over the bakery, but maybe being 100 feet away would be good enough (and help to promote self control).
