My husband, my son, and I are planning to move to Austin next summer...

We are interested in buying a new construction home, but we have gotten some different info regarding this decision and regarding home builders. We were considering KB Homes, but upon doing some research we found a few people had some negative experiences...however, there were no good experiences posted. When we looked at other companies, the results were the same...all bad and no good! Maybe it's just that people are more motivated to report bad experiences than good ones????

We are also trying to research elementary schools in Austin as well. Our son will be in kindergarden next year and he is autistic...so we need to find an appropriate special education program at a good school.

So...my point...Does anyone know of a good new construction home builder that builds in an area with a good school district that has a good special needs program...whew...I know that's a lot to ask...but any advice would be helpful Thanks!!!

I heard second-hand that KB homes in San Antonio have lots of issues that are pretty serious: foundation cracks. Our realtor wouldn't even show KB-built homes to us.

We bought a home that was already built but would have gone through Wilshire if we were to go your route. They would do things like move walls in the interior at no added cost.

There are a few folks on this forum who have had experience with several home builders. You might want to do searches here for some names I've read mentioned: Pulte, Wilshire and Newmark. I'm sure there are others, too, that experienced realtors can point you towards.

I agree with another poster who said It's not the builder, it's the contractors who vary from crew to crew (something like that) that make for construction problems. When we were in Denver, we lived in a K.B Home, and the only complaint we had was that the walls were thin. My husband couldn't be watching T.V downstairs without me hearing it upstairs like it was there with me. This may vary by model, but ours was a small starter so don't know if that may have been part of the reason. We never had foundation problems. Lennar in Austin was also having some issues with foundation, wall cracks and water leaks, etc...

We just moved here and are looking at homes and I have looked into the KB home at Silverado and Westwood and the silverado ones seem a lot better built than those in westwood. I have heard that the Leander isd is a good match for those with special needs, also Round rock is good so I have been told. Heard that Austin isd not so good.
