I'm a republican and even I think Rick Perry running for president is a very bad idea. I'd bet he wouldn't even carry Texas in the general election. And I can't think of one issue he's championed as Governor that he could run on nationally (HPV vaccines, sonagrams, toll roads anyone?). The first commercial I would produce if I were his opposition would include his famous quip about his support of Texas seceding from the US. I pity the fools that send their hard earned money to support this ridiculous idea.

A secessionist running for President of the United States of America. Brilliant!

You are misquoting this old Texas saying. It's from the days when Texas was a Yellow Dog Democrat state, and it actually goes, "I'd vote for a yellow dog if it was a Democrat."

Now, think a minute about what that really says about the ability and willingness of the voter to think about the issues and the quality of the particular candidate beyond the fact that he or she is a Democrat.

He complains about the federal government, threatens to secede, and bullies around women telling them what to do about their private health matters (sonograms, HPV), he should never even think of being a leader for anything at all.

Sayings and meanings evolve.

Actually, Perry running for president could be the best thing that could happen for the Democratic party.

Let's see....
I'm a woman who used to get all her healthcare from planned parenthood.
I have an elementary age son in a school that is about to lose some of its teachers.

So. No. Just.....no.

Perry wouldn't stand a chance in a general election even among his own party. I seriously doubt he'd run, anyway.
