I am moving to Austin and would like a hill view. My husband and I (no kids) require a minimum of 1600 square feet in a single family home. We qualify for the 55 and over neighboirhoods as well. I am flexible with price but would love to find something for under $300,000 if possible. Where is the best place to look? I thought originally I wanted a lake view, but I kind of think looking at the mountains is just as soothing and probably not as expensive. Does anyone have any ideas where to look? I was thinking possibly Lakeway, Leander, Cedar Park, Lago Vista. Do these areas have homes with views or is it mainly flat in these areas? Anywhere else I should check out?

Leander is very hilly and there are a ton of cheap hilly lots. You might need to build your own house. Lake views arent that expensive. For example I have a lake front lot that I would be hard pressed to sell for 200k right now.

Lakeway and Lago Vista will offer you both hills and lake views - possibly in your price range. They are both also very 55+ friendly. You might also want to look in the Lake Travis area - if you wanted something a bit closer to town - and there are some good bargains there. All of those areas are part of the hill country. Leander and Cedar Park aren't as hilly - but prices are more affordable. Your best bet is to drive through those areas to see how they are - they each have their own pros and cons. Lago Vista is a very beautiful area - but it's the furthest away from town and may feel a bit too remote for some.
