Make sure you stay wihtin a mile or two of downtown, stay off the "freeways" during rush hours, and don't look at any costs of homes around you. The city of Austin will thank you later by collecting some of the highest property taxes in the nation on your home! Enjoy!

It's hard to tell you what you must see without knowing a little bit more about you. What are you seeking in a new community? What do you like to do? What amenities are important to you? Are schools an issue for you? Are you looking to rent or buy and what's your price range? Do you prefer urban living or suburbs or small town or rural (we've got 'em all)?

If you're thinking of relocating, rather than checking out the touristy things, you'll likely want to check such things as shopping (make sure to hit both Central Market and Whole Foods, as well as places like HEB, Fresh Plus, Sprouts and such. Zilker Park is both touristy and not, so that would be a good stop and if you're into biking or walking, the hike and bike trail there as well as the veloway down south. If shopping is your thing, check out Barton Creek Mall, Arboretum, Westgate, the Domain. Books? Check out Bookpeople (right across from the Whole Foods Flagship store on Lamar and 6th) and any of the Half Price Books stores in the area.

Again, without knowing what you're interested in in a new community, it's hard to advise, but those are some suggestions for someone considering moving to the area rather than just visiting.

Default Thank you all for your responses.. a Bit more about what am in search of..

I am looking to open a commercial finance company. I've had lived in the metropolis most of my life; east coast and west coast. I am looking for a city that is very friendly for small business owners. Personally, I am looking for affordable housing, culture, entertainment and room for growth. I enjoy the nature and the unique talents of creative individuals of arts and entertainment. Where should I visit if I am looking to relocate rather than a tourist? Is there a financial district in Austin? Thanks again for your response.

Austin isn't big enough to have "districts." We have a downtown, and a relatively small one at that. I would check out the South Congress area, the areas immediately east of I-35, and perhaps around the University. I would also focus a lot of time on any air-conditioned attributes of the city you can find. It will most likely be 105+ degrees.
