I just got a new car so I don't have a TX Tag for it yet. My husband used the car and used the toll road without even realizing we don't have a tag for it.

My temporary plate has my vin number so I don't know if I will get a bill in the mail or it goes to the dealer. I just don't want to get in trouble.

Has this happened to anyone?

They'll send you a bill.

But my vin number is not registered with my address yet. They said it will take 60 days.

You can register with them if you call them, and add your new car to your pre-existing account if you have one.

We are a 2 car family. I only have TXTag in one car, b/c I am the only one that takes toll roads. The other car we have on our TXTag account though, so if we DO go thru tolls on it, they can send us a bill in a timely manner without accruing extra fees.

They will track you down, and charge you for their leg work, so I would try to be proactive with them in giving your information.

Thanks. I'll give them a call on Monday. I don't want to get a $1000 bill b/c they didn't know who to bill.

Hmm. I always wondered about this. My husband purchased a new car last year, and he used the toll often with the temporary tag. I assumed the dealer would some how pass the cost down to us, but we never heard anything, and it's been about a year. I actually forgot about it until I read this thread. I guess we need to look into it. I hope it hasn't morphed into an astronomical bill.

You can always hope they don't ever catch you, lol.

When I first bought my Prius, I had temp tags, and I took the toll road all the time. When I got my real tags, and reupped my TXTag to the new car, they had all my toll charges from the temp tags in the computer. They were just waiting for me to register, so I do know they keep the information, even on temp tags.

Whether they ever find you if you don't identify yourself, that I don't know. But why take the chance.

Oh, really? Wow. My husband added his new car to our TXTag account after he received his plates, but he didn't mention anything about the charges from the temporary plates when he called TxDot. Hmm.

But like you said, why take the chance. The last thing I want to see is a several hundred (maybe even thousand) dollar bill land in our mailbox. Thanks for the info!

Just got off the phone from TX Tag. She issued me a new tag and added my new vehicle with the temp plate number. Then when I get my plates I can take off the temp plate info. I asked her about my husband using 45 last Tuesday and she acted like it was no problem. She didn't say we would get a bill or not. I checked my account online and the last toll fee was with the old car last Monday.

On our most recent new car we got billed, on previous car we got nothing. Now that you are registered its not an issue anymore
