A good "Texas" gift for New Yorker?
Looking for suggestions for a gift to take to NYC next week for a colleague who sheltered me at her place for a night last month after the steam pipe explosion near our office when I couldn't get back to my hotel - small that I can pack in a carry-on but something that might say "Texas" to her and her husband. Thanks for any ideas!

Shiner Bock Beer
Ship some Coopers BBQ from Llano ahead of time to arrive the same day.
Hot sauce (or find a good recipe and practice at home and make some there)
Blue corn tortillas
Find the Brighton Lone Star bracelet they had out last year (I have one and LOVE it)
A charm that fits the Lone Star image (James Avery stores are a great resource sometimes for this)
Pick up a copy of Texas Monthly and look in the back at all of the ads. If they grill you may be able to get one of the "brands" done in time or have it shipped since it may not be carried on the plane - I've seen the ads for these in TM along w/ lots of other great Texas gift ideas.

What are some of their personal likes, dislikes and hobbies? You can find the state of Texas used in some way in just about any inanimate object out there for purchase, including food items..

I guess the long horn cow skull would be a little too big for a carry on. I saw a really cute Texas shaped chips/salsa platter that I thought would be great since chips/salsa are kind of a Texan thing.

Lammes candy would be good and very easy to transport. They have lots of locations around town and in the malls. Lammes Candies - Welcome!
A really good salsa is DL Jardines. You can buy it at HEB or Central Market and probably Whole Foods too. I like the gift sets you can get online: D.L. Jardines's

Arriba is good too. I think it's a Texas product. Jardines has a store in Dripping Springs (I think). It may be in buda. I was out adventuring with my daughter one day, and came across it. We bought a few things there. Actually, I think it's the factory also, but they have a store. It doesn't look like a factory and it smells really good in there.

A shotgun!
I have several family members who have moved here from the bay area, and have bought each of them a shotgun upon their arrival.

How about just letting them stay in your spacious apartment/condo for a weekend. It will probably seem like a resort to them...
