So driving back to San Antonio today on 35 near, just before exit 248 I saw someone on the side of the highway at a table and a large banner that read, "Shame on Fast Eddies".

Anyone know what's up with that? We have Fast Eddies here and it's a pretty decent place. Was just curious.

I saw something like that off of 183 in Austin, near Anderson Mill Road, I think. That one had the same wording (Shame on...), but it was about home development, or something along those lines. Wondering if it's the same group.

Another poster started a thread about that a few weeks back. I mentioned that it was possibly a labor dispute. This has been going on for about 3-4 weeks now. Those guys are serious. They are out there before 8 am. I've seen them out there on my way to the office.

I tried doing a search for it before my post but could not find anything for this year. Boy, they must be ---to spend the money on a banner and the time to sit there.

Momato, I'll bet you hit the nail squarely on the head. Antismoking advocates are the grandmasters of political blackmail and have money out the wazoo to pay for posters, banners, ads, and "volunteers" to spend time spreading the material. People wonder how smoking bans spread so fast around the country: in virtually every state/city with a ban movement you'll find a "Smoke-Free XXX" group with money from the MSA tax and various "charities" behind it. Individual politicians who stand up against them get faced with election-time ads where cigarette-warning style stickers are slapped over their photos with messages about how "Councilman X voted for Big Tobacco instead of our children" etc.

So yep, unless someone comes up with contrary information, my money would be on the Antismokers.

You guys are probably right. In retrospect, I remember driving by thinking, wow...those people sure have a fancy looking sign AND it comes with attached parasols! I wondered how much they paid for the set up.
