Sorry for the delay in responding, but I needed to clear this type of post with a moderator before posting it into the thread.

There's a Facebook page that has been created to coordinate recovery assistance for the fire victims in central Texas. I think it was created by the Austin American Statesman newspaper. There are many posts on the page where assistance is either being offered or requested. Here's the LINK. I don't believe a Facebook account is required to view the page.

Law enforcement personnel so very seldom ask for help, but now they're included in the victims. Here is some information that I received from a former co-worker who has been affected by the fires:
Travis & Bastrop County Sheriffs office have taken a devastating blow. 44 deputies & jailers have lost their homes to the Bastrop fires. If you would like to help the deputies & families you can send gift cards from: walmart, target, bed bath & beyond or VISA gift cards to:

Sheriff's Memorial Benevolent Society of Travis County, Inc. (SMBS)
P.O. Box 252
Del Valle, TX 78617
If donating by check, make check payable to SMBS. In the memo section of the check please write "Fire Victims" to designate where the money should go. For further information, you can contact Detective Carrie Turner at 512-657-9892.

I hope this helps.

Bringing this suggestion over from the Texas forum:

These men and women are putting their lives on the line (and some have paid the ultimate price with their lives) to protect their community and surrounding communities for no pay. You never know when it may be your house in the path of a fire....
