WE are moving to Austin TX and need help with the area, schools etc. From our research I found RoundRock and Leander ISD up north is affordable with good schools. Is my understanding correct? Which schools to avoid and whch schools provide pre-AP and AP courses.

Thanks

Since no one responded to your previous post below...

I am more familiar with RRISD vs. Leander as we live in Austin but are RRISD-zoned and I've learned from this board, the community and all the various rankings there is one RRISD high school, one middle school and three elementary schools (all in the same zone) that are directly compared to the top Eanes counterparts on the exemplary level.

But there are many extremely good options right behind those and Leander schools are also very highly rated and respected. Either way, if it were me, I might first focus on a few areas you like OR pick a few schools and look in the surrounding areas to determine if you like the neighborhoods.

As far as AP, yes, the high school I was referring to above, Westwood, is often compared to Eanes' Westlake HS (as both are ranked in the 100 public high schools in the country), has many AP options but it seems they may be even more focused on the more rigorous IB program as opposed to AP. Those with middle school and HS kids can comment further.
