Hope that never changes. Sorry to the people who like to dress up. Although as folks have mentioned, no reason not to do it anyway if that's your thing.

Just my opinion but I'm thankful Austin is what it is. Really, if a person wants to "dress up" then dress up. Does it depend on what everyone else is doing? Keep Austin, as you say, "casual and filled with to many hippies and hipsters."

If 'dressing up' means wearing long pants, it'll have to cool off at least 20 degrees before I'm in!

Agree- probably need to join a country club, the Headliner's Club, or some other private thing which includes dress codes involving jacket and tie. Otherwise nobody does that here, unless it's a big charity event or fundraiser. You could possibly get away with dressing up if you go to Jeffrey's - but I'm not sure of literally any other restaurants that dressing up would even be appropriate. Does anyone want to try and list some restaurants where they wouldn't feel weird dressing up? I can't think of any.

Chez Nous. Jeffrey's. Green Pastures. Fonda San Miguel. Gumbos (odd as that seems).

I'm sure there are others, that was literally off the top of my head without even thinking about it.

One of Austin's "things" that make it what it is has always been that you can see folks standing in line at Jeffrey's, say, and some of them will be in evening attire and some will be in jeans and cowboy boots, and no one will look, or feel, strange. I, too, hope that never changes.

Why would we want to be just like everywhere else? What's the fun in that?

I agree. But, I think some people have fun occasionally dressing up and going someplace fancy. It's tough because every year or so, an occasion presents itself (usually out of town) where I am forced to where a suit and tie. I've been in situations where I've had to run to get emergency clothing for a specific event. I hope Austin never changes to, but since people probably own 1 dressy outfit, I think it's fine to ask where they could wear it one of the other 364 days of the year.

You lost me. What in my post said that folks shouldn't be able to dress up and go out? In fact, I mentioned several places where that would be entirely appropriate and, as said, I'm sure there's more, those were just what occurred to me right off the bat.

I think it was when you said "Why would we want to be just like everywhere else? What's the fun in that?"

Nobody was saying that.
