Meteorology in Austin is, quite honestly, a joke. Accuracy is not what central Texas meteorologists strive for. (Example: I just now heard on the radio there's "a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon." They've said the same thing for over fourty of the last ninety days... and been wrong every single time but one!) I don't know what kind of game they're playing, but I wouldn't buy a penny's worth of stock in any weather reports you might find.

Ok, I feel better now. Anyway, have no fear, Austin is extremely sunny!

How is Austin in the winter months? I spent the majority of my life here on earth in sw CT, about 20-30 min. from LI sound. We had a strong 4 season climate, including winter, though it was not as rough as the most of the rest of new england. I have since travelled extensively, and lived close to the equator, and am now looking for a warmer climate. I have been in St. Louis temporarily and for 2, almost 3 months straight this summer it was 90+ with high humidity, with no break. Holy hell people. I like the heat but it came on one day and never turned off, like a lighg switch. Phew. I think Austin is comparable if not worse..? Is there a sense of seasons changing down there, even subtely? I do like mild changes, to mark the days.

Agree here as well. Other than a crazy early 2007 where we joked about living in Seattle because it was raining so much, Austin weather is nothing like Seattle's. I know that because I now live in Seattle!

Thanks texastrigirl! I love Seattle but the weather keeps me away, for now. How do you like it?

Actually, that is a very mild summer indeed! . This summer (which has been hotter than normal) it was 100+ for about 3 months, although humidity was not bad at all (small consolation). A typical summer is 95-97, I would estimate, for several months, but with a lower average humidity than St. Louis.

Yes, we are still search for the light switch to turn off the summer heat. 104 yesterday and supposed to reach 102 today.

I love the heat but this summer . . . I cry uncle already!

Thanks guys! The light switch just turned itself off the other week here in STL - within 24 hours- it dropped something like 20-30 degrees! And has stayed that way pretty much. One day a little over a week ago maybe, everyone got up, got dressed, opened the door to leave, said holy cow it's cold! And had to run back in and change/grab a sweater! I hope this happens fof you guys soon! I do wish we had more waxing and waning, a slow, gradual change in the temps/weather. Never experienced that weird sudden and permanent change before.

I'm just west of Seattle right now and earlier this morning there were sun breaks, but it's cloudy and gray right now and probably will be the rest of the day, so I would have to say, "No," it's probably nothing like Seattle cloudy.

I agree with this except many days the clouds last a lot longer in the a.m.

Winters can be pretty cloudy, too.
