No comparison between a New England winter and an Austin winter. Austin might get a few days where you break out the wool jacket but generally a heavy fleece can handle most of the colder Austin days. Snow or more likely ice is a big event. I grew up in the Midwest. I thought Austin winters were heavenly!

With Eepstein, a lot of things are "grossly misrepresented by statistics". OP, I'd take the things he says with a grain of salt and challenge him to produce sources to back up his statements. He has a grudge against Austin and spends his free time posting misinformation to folks and never quite seems able to post statistics or sources to back up his assertions.

Hmm, so where were you last winter with like 20+ freezes at night?? And what about the snow on two separate occasions? And also what about the nearly 4 days of windchills in the single digits and the temp never getting above freezing?? Did you miss these events??

Thanks texastrigirl, i saw some pics on here of austin in december and gave me a good idea - folks were wearing shorts. We would never be wearing shorts in NE in december unless it was a freak thing. I ideally would like to be somewhere it doesn't go below 60's during the day but i like austin and it fits a lot of my criteria...

Glad you love Seattle, I loved seeing the mountains from downtown - so cool!

Just out of curiosity, could you please provide a link to anything that shows how the City of Austin grossly misrepresents the stats about winter weather? And it probably should go without saying, but a lot of us don't consider extra exclamation points, different font colors, and lots of emoticons to be the same as links to sources.

jeje4455, if you are from NE, there will be no comparison to an Austin winter. It will just never be as bad as it can be in NE. Windchills in single digits is nothing compared to 55 below with windchill that we could have in IA from time to time. It's all relative to where you are coming from. I'd take TX weather over NE weather anytime. Heck, I'd take WA weather over IA/NE weather anytime!

Note that many of the remaining days are "partially sunny". This year it has probably been closer to 90% sunny days, since we have had so little rain.

I never said a winter in Austin is anything like a winter in New England. I simply said that it is not nearly as consistantly mild or pleasant as the COA wants you to believe. There are regular freezes, windchills, and lots of cloudy weather (not too mention measureable snowfall at least once during the past 3 winters). Not exactly Phoenix.
