Rec Leagues
so i got the job and im moving to Austin on October 1st. I'm moving on my own so I wouldn't know too many people in the area. Does anybody have a good website for Rec Leagues in the area? I'm 25 and constantly stay active so I would like to join a flag football/basketball/baseball team soon.
I figure its one of the better ways to meet people. Any suggestions?

You can find some info on the Austin Recreation Centers at this site:
City of Austin - Parks and Recreation Department: Austin Recreation Center
ARC is the one on Lamar and 12th, SARC is on Cumberland and S. 5th, and NWRC is on MoPac and Koenig. There are several others and I think there are links at the web site. Most have basketball leagues and will help you find a team if you need one. They may also organized ff/baseball/softball, but I am not sure. I have played in the volleyball leagues for years through the RCs. Btw, if you are single, volleyball and softball are my recommendation .

Craigslist
Look on Craigslist. They always have a bunch of rec things listed. Also if you like to be active the morning bootcamps are awesome.

There are 2 adult baseball leagues here. I play in the Central Texas Baseball League, Inc. and there also is a MSBL league that I did not look up.
Soccer is huge here with 3 different indoor arenas and a ton of outdoor leagues in just about every zone of this city.
The only Basketball leagues I know about are at the Y, at the Jewish Community Center, and 2 weekly pickup games at the Parmer South Dell facility in-between PS1 and PS4 on Mondays & Wednesdays.

I was thinking that a rec league might be a good way to meet people also. Just recently moved to austin, moderately athletic, trying to find ways to get off the couch and shake the " moved to a new city and don't know anyone blues". Are the leagues gender specific? Age specific? For all skill levels? Interested in how a female in her 30's might fit in to the mix. Can anyone shine some light? Thanks in advance for your help.

Again, my experience is pretty much limited to the Rec centers, but for volleyball I know there are skill level leagues (A, B, and C, with the B being informally broken down into B and BB) and gender (men's, women's, and co-ed). I do not know if there are any age splits, although tourneys usually have a seniors (50+) and sometimes a masters (40+), although the masters usually just play in the open age group, so it is pretty small. The leagues play a long seasons (10-12 games?) of 6-person teams, followed by an intra season 4-person league (6 weeks). They also do a 4-person 'reverse co-ed', where the men aren't allowed to hit in front of the 10-foot line and the net is set to women's height.
Don't know about basketball, but I think it is very similar. I don't know if the Rec centers organize the soccer leagues, but there are a zillion games going on at any given time.

nightowl34,
Soccer leagues are always looking for females.
There are also good volleyball and tennis leagues here (think mixed doubles).
Check out Craigslist for the sports you enjoy.
I got back into hard ball after 13 years of not playing after college and the MSBL was a nice way to come back and play out my "pro" experience.
MMA and Krav Maga also have a decent selection here.
