So who do you call to kill a rattlesnake in your yard?
I sure as heck won't be doing it when it happens and you bet I will want it dead (sorry those who think we should not. I KNOW they serve the environment, but you come on my land, I am getting you killed, snake. It bites me if I go near it, fair game)

Anyone you call is going to take it live, most likely.

Where do you live? THere is a resident in Steiner Ranch who is also a snake enthusiast. He removes them for free, but I think it's only within Steiner and the surrounding area.

Honestly, I don't think I'd call anyone. Unless it were in my house or garage, I'd just steer clear and let it wander off somewhere else. Our neighbors that have killed them did it themselves with a shovel. That seems a little too risky to me.

Just chop off its head with a shovel or hoe and dispose of it in the trash.

You can certainly go the shovel or hoe route and chop off the heat but it is almost effective just to stomp your feet (in boots works best) and clap your hands. Dropping a shovel or hoe hard against the ground works too. Snake leaves and rarely comes back.

The OP wants it dead. I don't think "stomp your feet (in boots works best) and clap your hands" is going to do that.

True. But it will go away without biting you and won't return. And no nasty chopping! The problem is that you absolutely can't have a change of heart half way through. You have to "just do it" when it comes to the chop!
I didn't get the impression that the OP wanted to do the deed herself, stomping and clapping can buy time and peace of mind while you wait for someone to show up.
