Howdy. I couldn't turn up much with a search even though I'm sure the question has been asked multiple times. My father lived/worked in Thailand in the late 60s, early 70's. He has many fond memories of the country and the food. The pickings are kinda slim here in San Marcos. I would like to get him out to a excellent, authentic Thai place. South side would be easiest but not really critical for a special outing. Suggestions are much appreciated..

Thanks, and Happy Holidays to all.

Perhaps I'm not the best authority, but I really enjoyed Titaya's on N Lamar.

I'm not sure how authentic but I have always been a big fan of Satay (it's in North Austin off of Anderson Ln and Mopac).

I also like Thai Tara on 6th St.

Generally, Thai food is not great in Austin, but Titaya's mentioned above and Madam Mam's original location are the best I have found. Thai Tara is long closed. There are however many excellent Vietnamese restaurants.

Madam Mam's. And they will tailor the dish to however you want it.

Madam Mam's or Titaya's are both good. I don't know how "authentic" they are, but they taste good nevertheless. Thai Tara has been closed for at least 3 years now.

Titaya's is definitely great.

I have found satay to be overpriced and subpar.

I have a business colleague from Thailand. He swears by Thai Kitchen on Guadalupe downtown. Wont go anywhere else.

I don't know much about Thai food, but Thai Kitchen is really good.

Thanks to all who replied. Based on the comments I'm leaning toward the Thai Kitchen. Thanks again.
