Highland Horizon is in Round Rock, not Austin — just in case you get a realtor who tries to sell you the "North Austin" bill of goods. Round Rock is an entirely different city.

From what I've seen of this area, it's very new and growing quickly. Nothing about it really stands out in my mind — it looks a lot like any other bedroom community, but it's not shabby or shady. Like I said, very new. If you or your husband work in Austin, that could be a very long commute. You could spend a lot of money on toll charges and fuel each month. Not to mention the time.

We live in Cat Hollow, on the northside of 620, right across from Highland Horizons. Great neighborhood and great schools.

Great Oaks Drive, and eventually O'Connor as well, is being extended to connect to 45 Toll, right past Highland Horizons. When this is complete in 2012, the commute downtown via Mopac, without traffic, will be like 15-20 minutes.

There's a bunch of retail development that's supposed to go up on the frontage land facing 620, so that's something to be mindful of.

BTW, it is in North Austin (78717), not Round Rock, but uses Round Rock ISD.

Yikes, there already IS a bunch of retail development on 620, around Anderson Mill — the number of strip centers I see in that area is totally insane.

??? Except that AM & 620 and Highland Horizon are about 7 miles apart...completely different stages of development.

The development along the south side of 620 near HH is not moving as quickly as planned(a good thing, I believe). There is a fair amount of 'stuff' on the north side, but crossing 620 on foot along there would be a challenge. I'm sure some changes will be made to the Great Oaks/620 intersection; but 620 is certainly not a 'family friendly' highway at this point. Once the extension is completed, Great Oaks will become more of a 'major artery' and the traffic will be worse.(Great Oaks will connect to the O'Connor extension) HH will be somewhat trapped by the two...unless changes are in the works.

OR as I like to call it...north-north Austin .
Everything 'official' I can find states that HH is in Austin, 78717 as pb said. However, some sites list HH as being in Round Rock. Even addresses within the small development don't seem to agree:

413 Highland Horizon, Austin TX 78717 from one home listing.

model home location: (within the neighborhood)
204 Southern Cross Dr.

Austin, TX 78717

from another:

Highland Horizon in Round Rock, a Prestigious and Beautiful Community
and another:
Highland Horizon is an up and coming community located in Round Rock, Texas near the eastbound side of FM 620 and Great Oaks Trail.

Diagonally across 620/Great Oaks, businesses seem to agree they are in Round Rock, 78681; BUT directly across 620, the businesses are listed as Austin, 78717. There is a vast amount of undeveloped land across Great Oaks from HH but southeast of 620...not sure where the Austin annexation ends.

Also of interest is that the HH community is located in the Brushy Creek MUD.

Whew!

Most of that area is Austin ETJ and only post office service is served out of Austin. That area is served by AT&T out of Round Rock, TXU for electric, RRISD, and emergency services from Williamson County SO, and Williamson County EMS. It may be declared "Austin", but as a whole it identifies with Round Rock more than anything else.
