The heat + lack of rain.

Close second for me is how difficult/expensive it is to travel to other states and regions. You have to drive forever to get out, or if you fly you often have one or more connections, which makes the trip take longer and it's always more expensive. A weekend jaunt to anywhere other than Dallas are not really feasible.

And I really, really, really miss the ocean.

My family LOVES to spend weekends in Houston! We drive out on a Friday, stay in a nice hotel downtown, take public transport to museums and the zoo on Saturday, go to pro sporting event Saturday night, and hit a fabulous ethnic restaurant on Westheimer Sunday on the way out of town.

perfect!

It would not be my first choice for a place to live but we love visiting Houston.

We like to hit Galveston of Port-A once or twice a year. Very easy drive. Skiing is 1 day drive.

As far as the "worst", it's really just enduring and accepting all the changes that come with growth and prosperity. I miss the lazier, smaller Austin but I love much of the growing, maturing Austin too.

And the allergies.

Steve

Hipsters. Just kidding I actually like most of 'em.

Worst thing would probably have to be the summer heat and the fact that Austin continues to sprawl. Yeah there's a lot of infill but it's not enough to offset the development of car-dependent subdivisions.

I'll vote for the summer heat(of the four super-hot summers we've been here...still waiting for a 'normal' summer ). However, January is making up for some of that high-temp misery . (I could throw in allergies but whatever I had for five days is GONE!!! "knock on wood" )

Disclaimer: You may recall that two weeks ago, I said the cedar didn't bother me...IF that's what hit me for five days, my apologies to Mother Nature. I have learned my lesson!

Nothing.

Austin is freaking awesome and having lived in many different parts of the country, this city has everything (for me anyway). Sure you suffer a bit through the summer, but throw down a margarita and go for a swim at Barton Springs and whatever. I'd much rather be out at Town Lake in 75 degrees in the middle of January than dealing with the 2.5 feet of snow that fell last night. I'll take a t-shirt and a dip in the lake over a snow day and a heater I can't shut off for months on end. Anytime.

So to answer your question, there is no worst part about Austin. It's absolutely brilliant.
