Wow, what complex is that? That's a great price!

Actually I prefer a 2/2 but a 2/1 would be fine.

It's not a complex, they're private four-plexes on Willowrun Drive. They are probably all different owners so they may not all be the same price. The neighborhood is relatively safe... As in, I don't feel unsafe there. As anywhere in Austin there's property crime (theft, etc) but I don't hear much about violent crime regularly. It's literally across the street from St. Ed's, so there's a lot of college students in the area.

*ETA: I realize a 2-2 is what was being searched for, but sometimes people are willing to compromise, especially if it means being closer to downtown.

Did you live or just visit? If you just visited it doesn't really matter what your impressions were. I used to live in the NE and would regularly visit Boston which was about 80 minutes away. I can tell you what it was like to visit, but I'd never go on a board there and suggest I know anything about living there, because I have no idea.

I totally agree, but the Texas boards seem overrun with bashers.

The Houston board is out of control. Sometimes the Texas board too. At least in the Austin board it's kept under control.

Seems to me that reflects a lot of the popular sentiment outside of Texas. When we told people we were moving to Austin (in the NE or else in LA) the response we got was 'ugh, Texas?!?' as if Texas was somehow a barbarian nation. People would agree with us that the cost of living was less but declare that you couldn't make any money there and that the COL was less because Texas paves their streets with disabled homeless people rather than taking care of them.

Having lived elsewhere, it was easy for me to see that these were little grains of truth warped into polemic, particularly when Perry was still a candidate. The notion that Texas is doing anything right and prospering is a dangerous one to other states, though obviously Texas has its fair share of problems as well. Just not as many as NY or California or Detroit, and I guess that's tough to swallow for some people.

Bashers? Um, i perfer to think of it as "people with opinions differing from most others on a particular board"

Well said. My wife and I are actively looking for jobs and interviewing in Austin (currently in CA, Bay Area) and we get the same response from most nose high Californians we mention the idea to. Austin does seem to have some sort of cred in the minds of folks we talk to. It's like "Texas? ugh" then "oh, yeah Austin is nice"

We visited SA while we were there and did not have a chance to go to hill country but liked TX in general. The friendly attitude was (generally speaking) was very apparent to us. My wife is terrified of scorpions crawling into bed with out 2 & 4 year old children though... she's been reading too many horror stories about TX critters.

Wink No Bashing

Absolutely nothing to do with bashing nor malicious intentions. Strictly stating an observation and my observations and experience were real to me. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...... I'm not going to white-wash it.

And what is wrong with stating my observations? If you believe them to be wrong then why not correct me. I'm not out looking for issues but I can tell you that I do not tolerate people with attitudes especially if they are providing me service that I'm paying for.

And hey, if ppl want to move to a particular City or State, its up to them to research the place - or not. They can just deal with the surprises later if they did not do their due deligence - or not. Like someone already said, some parts of Austin are great and others not so great. We just differ on which parts. And that could equate to different things: people, neighborhood, attitude, businesses, etc.

Been to LA, SFO and NY too. Great places as far as I'm concerned.
