I haven't seen that particular development, but saw a KB Homes tract area in South Austin and it was no better/no worse than the California KB Homes. Just exactly the same. An agent I spoke to when I was buying our house said the KB is not well thought of here either.
Emphasis on size and lack of "included" stuff. So they can offer low prices and high sq footage and then add on lots of extra charges in the amenities center. I'd steer clear of KB Homes personally. They have such a poor reputation and you have to think of resale too.

A friend of mine at work has a KB home in Cedar Park. He had major issues with a French Door that was not installed correctly. They used just normal weather stripping even though that was the side of the house that typically gets an angled rain during storms. The wood casing and even the studs which made up the support around the opening were pretty rotted out after just a couple of years. They did have tile in the room luckilly so they did not lose any carpet to the water infiltration. During the repair at their own expense, they had their contractor use copper weather stripping, which is recommend for the rain side of the house.
They also just got done spending over $6K ripping out a bathroom that had a real musty odor all the time, but luckilly it was not black mold. They also did some upgrade work while they were at it. He is happy with what they paid for the home.

Our agent wouldn't even show us KB homes (new or older).
There is a KB development in this area - and yes, they are LARGE homes - but the outside is so not well done w/landscaping. It looks pretty silly, actually.
I wouldnt buy a KB.

Lennar had some big mold issues in some homes, so I would double check on that if you decide on them.

I would say mold is a issue, many older homes I looked at had a smell to them, also hotels we have stayed in had lots of mold, so I bought a new home to have a fresh start

I think we want to buy a new house too, for the reason also that everyone will be new..It will be hard enough to relocate, although we are lookinh forward to it!!!! now we just have to find the right place for us....I know the mold thing is scary, my sister in law had a condo in San Marcos (CA) about 10 years ago, and was infested with black mold, she has been very sick ever since then..... pretty scary!!

Black mold isn't the bad kind. It's the orange stuff that's really bad.
