Not sure how accurate this is but it looks 40K feels low for that much experience.

Since the Op is making 45K in DC, I assumed that he is more of a Dreamweaver/Fireworks/Photoshop web designer and not a web programmer. Your company pays standard HTML web developers $90K?

I live in Austin on just over 20k, and I'm working towards living a simpler life with even fewer expenses than I have now. It is highly likely that my definition of living well is different from many people's.

that would be the best kids out of school. Many wont make it all the way to the 90k level. We generally hire directly out of school because somehow we can just get better talent that way.

Those look nice, but you could shorten your commute considerably by looking at places that are comparable in the Great Hills area (near the Arboretum) or even around the Domain. Riata would even be closer and would be a nice place for a 20-something. They have some similarly priced 1-bedrooms.

The job I'll be working at is down the street from the Austin Raceway Park on I35 and Exit 248 (Grand Avenue Pkwy). Any suggestions of nice and affordable apartments in the general area?

There are a few nice apartment complexes around there. So it sounds like you're probably alright with up to the ~$900ish range for a 1 bedroom. Is that correct?

There is a newer complex in La Frontera (Round Rock) that is nice. It sits on the edge of a large shopping center so that's a little weird, but you can walk to a lot of places (Barnes & Noble, Sam's Club, restaurants, etc.)

It wouldn't be a terrible commute to areas around the Domain or the Arboretum if you want to be a bit closer to downtown. I would probably go with one of those areas. It sounds like you might benefit from an apartment locator, but nothing beats driving around the different areas to see what you like. There really are so many apartments everywhere that it's tough to pin down just a few.

Thanks for the information! Preferably, like you said, I would like to be an equidistance from downtown and my job location to make the most of my area. I also want to live in NW, because I hear that it's the best part of town. My price range for an apartment is between 600-900, ideally.
