Default City Baseball Leagues?

Does anyone know about any of the leagues around town for adults?

I'm positive the MSBL has leagues but just wondering about any others that might be more casual or like sponsored by the city (i.e. intramural)... Thanks!

There are a couple of leagues:

MSBL - Austin Metro Baseball League Austin Metro Baseball League All wood bat which is awesome, but the guy running it is, well, not very sportsmanlike, IMO. Quite a few teams, and some decent fields.

CTBL - Central Texas Baseball League Central Texas Baseball League, Inc. Still metal, small league, but they do play championship games at Dell Diamond.

Both are about to start.

I am looking for an adult baseball league to join. I have found the AMBL and CTBL websites. I was on a rec team in Los Angeles 5 years ago, and it was a lot of fun. I've done very little physical activity since moving here, which is bad, and my body and arm are out of shape. So I'm hoping to find the least competitive league or division to join so that I can get my body and skills back up to where they used to be (they weren't all that impressive to begin with).

I don't really care for wooden bats or strict adherence to MLB rules. It seems like the CTBL AA division is where I want to be, and I will probably try to get in their upcoming Fall season. Before I do, I'm hoping to get some more opinions about these leagues and where I might best fit in.

CTBL would be a good fit - the fall season usually doesn't have A/AA divisions, since it's fewer teams. Because of this, there will be a wide range of talent, but you should still be able to have plenty of fun.

The one thing the MSBL does offer that CTBL doesn't is age-group divisions, if you're over 35, that's a great way to get back into the game.

I'm 36. How do you think the MSBL 35+ division compares to the CTBL A division talent-wise?

Fairly equivalent, although in the 35+ league(s), you don't have to deal with 18 YO kids who can't pay fees and think there might be a scout in the stands somewhere.

Great. Thanks for your help. Now to find someone to throw with so I can get my arm into some semblance of shape.

Too funny!

I don't know? After 30 years I don't think I could hit a baseball.

I will need to start out with at least a 12" softball!!
Been living vicariously through my daughter and her fastpitch career.
Where are all the slow pitch leagues, looking for players?

Default Austin Baseball League.

It's now November, and I don't know if you're still searching or not.

If so, the Austin Baseball League IS searching for players age 29 and over right now. We plan on playing our first game next Sunday, Nov 18, 2012 at Govalle Park in Austin (5200 Bolm Road). This game is not a certainty, however.

But we will definitely be practicing Saturday, Nov 17, at 1 PM at Govalle Park. We'll be practicing every Saturday thru Dec 15th, with the exception of Thanksgiving weekend. We have Govalle Park's field reserved from Thursday thru Sunday for the next 12 months.

The Austin Baseball League, and the Austin Outlaws team are still looking for players. We're trying to get as many players as possible to expand the league to more teams. EVERYONE will be placed on a team and play.

Next Saturday we will be taking batting practice again off a Juggs Pitching machine again at 70-78mph, as we have done at our previous practices.

We practiced for 3+ hours last Saturday, Nov 10, 2012, and the previous Saturday, Nov 3rd, at Govalle Park. Most of the practice consisted of Batting Practice--taking swings off a Juggs Pitching Machine using official MSBL baseballs, at a pitch speed varying between 75-80mph. We also took infield and outfield.
