I find myself in the awkward position of saying that you are more reasonable than some people I encounter.

(on both sides of that issue)

Try googling "Salvation Army" and "hate". Maybe you will think it returns useful information or not. But, there is clearly a controversy that one should be aware of. Personally, I think the SA is an organization that once was respectable. Now, it seems as though its been highjacked by people who have a different agenda.

Or else every little piece of information is now available online such that it's trivially easy to find tons of information and debate about every little detail - just like this forum.

I don't see any reason to believe that SA's agenda has changed. But gay marriage wasn't in the news 20, 30 years ago. It wasn't on the "inevitably coming to your state soon" train that it is now. So of course people who oppose it are lobbying against it.

If you want to donate to anti-gay hate groups, just skip the middle man and do it yourself. No reason to let the Salvation Army take their cut before hand.
I don't think that as a 501c3, the Salvation Army can give money to political campaigns. Can you site a source for this information?

ETA- the very memo you cited in a later post kind of makes it clear that not everyone was on board with discriminating and some people in the organization were deeply troubled by it. I still don't see anything about giving money to politicians.
