Default Reputable place to sell my car?

Aside from Carmax & Craig's List, are there any other recommended places, such as a used car dealer, to sell my car? It's really tempting to trade it in, but I'd rather sell it & make a few more $$$$. Thanks!

I've used autotrader.com. It's not free but I've sold several cars on there and it was worth the $$ for the ad to attract the right buyers.

Depending on the value of your vehicle, the difference in the price you receive may or may not offset the tax 'savings' realized when trading in. Something to keep in mind ~6% , IIRC.

I don't know the action or commission involved, but there is a 'park and sell' lot on 183/Bell--about 1/3 mile south of 1431 in Cedar Park.

If you do sell it through ads, schedule to have at least 3 people show up at the same time. This will make it much harder for people to negotiate and make them want the car more. You will be much more likely to sell it at your asking price if you do this.

That probably helps if you're selling a car worth quite a bit. On a recent purchase, I opted to sell our current car for $11,000 vs the $9,000 trade in quote. The tax savings would have only been a little over $700. Also, the sales tax can be deductible on Federal taxes.

I have to admit, trading in is a whole lot easier! Selling your car is a giant pain. I don't even mind the people who are trying to bargain, but just responding to ads and taking the time to show the car is a lot of work. Sometimes it's worth the little less you'll get on the trade in to save your sanity.

Yeah, we've been silly enough to trade vehicles worth $25-30K and that tax difference is significant on those numbers! I actually got $2K 'more' than I thought I should on my last trade AND the $1100 worth of body work it needed was 'ignored'. In theory, I 'paid' for it on the other end, but it sure made it easy to trade!

Selling it myself has netted me over $100/hr for my time. Well worth it. Good luck with Autotrader with more expensive vehicle and craigslist for a $3000 car.
