Zip code 78613. A home is a corner lot in my parents neighborhood. Home is older, around 1985 or so, but man. 3/4 acre, I think selling/asking price of 110K. Close access to hwy183 & 1431 (toll road) that is a buy!!
Np hoa, but the neighborhood is very quite.

I think first you have to ask why you think you want a big lot. What will it provide? Most people will say "privacy - I don't want to be right on top of my neighbors, or look 10 ft out my kitchen window and see another house".
If you agree with that, then what you want is a home that provides privacy, not necessarily a big lot. I've seen homes on 1 acre lots that are crammed up against each other visually, and I see homes on small lots in mature neighborhoods like Travis Heights that are close together but where you really can't see any of your neighbors through the windows (due to trees and vegetation and landscaping).
That said, if you do want a larger lot, there are many older neighborhoods around Austin such as Shady Hollow, Granada Hills, and smaller neighborhoods SW of Austin in Oak Hill and in Manchaca and San Leanna that were developed in the 1960s/1970s and have .5 to 2 acre lots. You'd have an older home though. Anything new being built on 1+ acre probably starts at $400K and up. In Granada Oaks (behind Granada Hills) the new homes on 1 acre start at $599K. If you go out to Dripping, you can find some bigger lots starting at $300k.
I'm not familiar enough with all the areas North and NW, but I know there are similar areas up there also.

I have a large lot ( 3/4 acre) and I will warn anyone that it is a ton of work. My lot is not extremely wooded but I do have about 14 large oak trees, 2 large pecan trees, half dozen crepe myrtles, and some other trees and large shrubs. This spring and summer, I had two piles of just seasonal trimmings that each measured 20'x20'x6' tall. It filled 2 14' trailers packed tight. Deer and birds than come through, uh, deposit various seeds that grow into unwanted plants that I have to remove. It is a constant upkeep and a lot more work than I realized it would be.

This is very true. We have the same situation at our home, on 2 acres. We have over 50 oak trees. When an ice or wind storm comes through, it's major tree work and cleanup time.

Try Liberty Hill if you're going to work from home (Northwest side of town). Sundance Estates,Cierra Springs, Quarry Lake Estates. Those are 250-399k & one acre. You can also try Sundance Ranch & High River Ranch - those are 350-600k, the lots are bigger, and they're all custom.
