There are places on the square in Georgetown, but as to how late they're open, I couldn't tell you. There are plenty of places to eat around there, but yes, you will have to drive to the majority of them.

Thanks- good point about the driving.
I am in Northern Virginia now and we drive a fair amount as well to get to some destinations (non-chains, etc..).
La Margaritas is better than Chuy's? Great to know.

Chuy's is more about the atmosphere than the food. The food is actually average. There are better Tex Mex places all around. Rio Grande in Round Rock and Hutto is my favorite in this area. Never been to La Margarita... but Mesa Rosa is good too (off of 35, in RR).

Sorry for the ignorance but if we move to Georgetown we are really hoping to have really local places to go- without driving 16 miles or into Austin for everything.
Cedar Park is relatively close to Georgetown in my opinion as you won't really hit a ton of traffic going there like you would to downtown Austin. It's a fairly easy drive. Cedar Park has the closest indoor mall to Georgetown that has a Macy's, etc. You might be making that drive occasionally anyway if the Round Rock Outlet mall doesn't have the stores that you're looking for. It also has one of the better Tex-Mex places in the area in the Texican Cafe.

Trudy's has two locations and both are in Austin. It is definitely a place that is worth driving to in my opinion and most people I know like it better than Chuy's. My parents live in Georgetown, so I'm there fairly often, but I can't think of any good burger or pizza places there that I've been to. We would normally go to Applebee's or Chili's for restaurant burgers if we want to stay in Georgetown. For fast food burgers, there's always Whataburger in Georgetown and everywhere else. Some people love it and some people hate it.

We've not found a good burger place in GT, except for Sonic, if that counts. There's a FuddRucker's in Round Rock. I would like a Johnny Rocket's or Fatburger, but I don't think that's gonna happen. Chili's and Applebee's of course have burgers, but I don't know if that counts, either!

Plenty of Tex-Mex in GT: Dos Salsas is good, but be prepared to wait - seems like they're always crowded and parking there is a pain. We also like Mamita's and Marichis de Jalisco. There's a new Taco Cabana for fast food. There are a number of other places, too. You won't lack for Tex-Mex around here.

We like Duke's for BBQ, but there's also another place... The Pit, I think? It's often busy when we drive by, but we've never tried it.

Georgetown has a surprising number of restaurants for a small town. There are even a couple higher end places on the square. They just opened a sushi place at Wolf Ranch that's pretty good. But no Thai or Vietnamese at all that I can find, and the one Chinese buffet place we tried was AWFUL.

Round Rock is a short 10-15 minute drive away, and they have plenty more choices. We've only tried the RR chain places that you can see from the 35, but I suppose there are some good local restaurants there somewhere. Austin's Arboretum area and the new Domain aren't far either.

I hope the quality hasn't gone down since the last time I visited it, but a great little burger place in RR is the Red Barn on 79. There's also a little hole in the wall place in Rice's Crossing, I think called Old Times, or something like that. It's pretty small, but always full. I haven't had a burger there, but always hear rave reviews. Snuffy's in Rice's Crossing also has good burgers.

Try the City Lights mushroom swiss burger and catch a movie afterwards! Surprisingly good burger for an in-house theater restaurant.

Try Stone Canyon in Georgetown for burgers. Or Monument Cafe.

The new El Charrito in Florence (short drive away) is good, too, for Mexican food.

Don Pedro on Williams Drive (in the shopping center adjacent HEB, where Mamitas used to be) was quite good the couple of times I've been there.
