Most of my friends that were molested as children were molested by a family member or close family friend. The whole stranger scenario can be overplayed...yes our kids should be aware, but getting kidnapped is just one of the things that can happen.

I agree, kidnappings can happen, and I too have read that these sickos usually molest their own, or a friend of the family. It is scary though, because i thought there were alot in the areas, considering the population.

I agree, i would prefer them dead as well, no parole/probabtion NOTHING, and maybe before they got what they deserved, maybe a taste of their own medicine would be good for them. I think it is just a really sad thing, I also agree with the most of them not being the bf/gf thing, that just sounded better than the truth!!! Because when you start really looking into it, it is the opposite!

I read on one of the threads, people were talking about dropping their kids off at the mall, to hang out, and some were saying noway, i would be one that says no way!! But what i read, was sad, as one parent said they don't do sleepovers because kids had been molested during those times. HOW SAD!! Didn't we all love the sleepovers as kids?? I did, and it just made me realize even more what a sad society we are raising kids in......

The bf/gf does sound better than the truth because I looked at the pics in the database for Georgetown (where I'm about 90% sure will be my choice to move) and those men were NOT 18 year old boyfriends. They were disgusting.

I told my daughter that I'm one of the uncool, paranoid mothers and she will just have to live with it. She just rolls her eyes and says "I know". haha

I'm scared to let my daughter go to sleepovers also and it's very sad that she is not able to be a free little kid like I was. I remember our neighborhood was free territory to us and about 15 other little kids. We roamed all over the place. Now I'm too afraid to let her play in the yard without watching her.

In the town where we lived before, in WA, ONE sex offender moved in and a neighbor wrote this huge sign telling people he lived in the area and to be careful with all the children. Maybe we need to be that unfriendly to these people here in TX as well!!

That sounds great to me, BUT I am thinking you can not "harrass" them....I think you should be able to, atleast it is not like molesting little innocent children, they are adults, thay can take it!! Anyways, maybe you could check with your local PD, and see how far you would be able to push them, without breaking the law per se.

We are making our trip out there next week, while this is not a deal breaker for us, we are going with the mind set, either when we get there we will love it or not, and if not we will stay here in So. Cal. While that is not my first choice, so i hope we love it, we will be more so looking into the Dripping Springs area, not so much because of the sex offenders, but because i think it is more "hill country" and not as flat as RR or GT. However i noticed a large amount of SO's (should be SOB'S, hehe) in Kyle & Budha, i do not know how far they are from DS. This whole thing makes me sick....the wonderful lawmakers should really do SOMETHING about this. While i am not of with 19yol's dating 16yol's (I was one of those in HS) I do however think they should have a different labeling, due to the person not being per se a CHILD. just my .02 cents!!

I searched the Texas Department of Public Safety, and what I didn't know is that in our old zip code in Round Rock, there are 55 registered SO's. I even recognized several of the street names.

Luckilly, in 78732, where Steiner is located, there are Zero registered. Can't guarantee there aren't any off the radar so to speak, but still nice to see.

I think that would clarify the statistics one way or the other. That way, everyone would know specifically who is in their area. There is a HUGE difference between a consentual relationship of disparate age, and a 40 yr old guy trolling for elementary kids or a serial rapist. Granted there are many waypoints of distinction along the way but something needs to be done about that. As someone who doesn't have children but who is married, I'm more concerned about violent rapists than statutory rapists.

p.s. when I was in high school, there was a period of about 9 months where I was 18 and my girlfriend was 17. That kind of stuff is totally normal.

Me too.
From the link posted somewhere in this thread, I went to a map of Austin.

Blue dots = sexual battery.

There's a blue dot pretty close to my house.

Why are they allowed to live so close to schools?

I should know the answer to that, as Hutto just had a motion at City Hall to extend the distance an offender could live from a school even further away, and I can't exactly remember the cockamamie excuse they came up with for not passing it. Something having to do with them not changing their behavior due to distance from the school or something. Think I'll go look it up to make sure.
