My property taxes went up 11% this year, but most of the houses around me had their taxes increase only 0-5%. Is this a valid protest argument, or does TCAD only really care about comparable sales? Has anyone successfully protested based on the increase, instead of comp values, or is that futile?
thanks

I think protesting simply that 11% is too much is not a good argument. They could argue that your home had been undervalued for some time. But protesting forces TCAD to explain to you how they arrived at the new value. They will probably show comparables. If their comparables are unfair or inapproriate, be prepared to show them why.

^ Yup. OTOH, if your taxes have been too high, you can get a decrease when everyone else is getting an increase....
