I really hope the 100 degree days are at a minimum this year. I foolishly planted more things in the ground when things were looking up in March/April.

TWC is reporting 100 degrees F, 'feels like' 106, 22 mph winds...
Now, THAT'S the Austin I've come to know!

Many people moving to Austin expect it to be hot in the summer, but I think a lot of newcomers may not completely understand a couple of aspects to this:
  • the duration of the summer: it effectively goes from May through the end of October. Six months of summer.
  • During the worst part of the summer, the morning lows are near 80˚F. Put another way, it never gets cooler than around 80˚F

Well, it was officially 101 degrees yesterday at Camp Mabry. This does not bode well.

I wonder how long it will be before people who put in new lawns this spring will start posting about their grass dying? Maybe somebody will start a betting pool.

May was quite pleasant this year, though. It only started getting really hot last week...

EXACTLY! If it cooled off at night it would be one thing, but mid 70's and high humidity is crazy! It was 85% humidity one morning this week when I came to work at 7:30! It was like hitting a brick wall.

I was looking at my backyard grass this morning and it is effectively dead. I've been watering my front yard when we are allowed so it's not quite dead, but it's looking peaked at this moment.
