Taking off on the 25 year old's post, we are only in town for three days (Sun-Wed morning) and are wondering what must see's, do's are?
We are looking at houses two of those days- one day in Central Austin and one day in Gtown and are staying at the Hyatt Regency on Town Lake.
We love bbq, tex-mex, souther fried steak (high cholesterol foods) and atmosphere as well as outdoors. But we are 40's-60.
We've been to County Line (fine but not great), Whole Foods and Central Market, Hut's (liked it) and the University already.
Any tips are welcome! Thanks!

No problem- I am so not well versed in Texas culture but I used to go to a southwestern restaurant on the Upper West Side of NY and I would always get their chicken fried steak, so that is actually one I know.
Wonder bread with BBQ was new to me!
I really do appreciate this forum- it is very helpful and I wish I had checked it before we came out last year. It def would have helped.
Are the bats still around at the end of October?

I like Rudy's too! I definitely think you should take a trip out to the Salt Lick.

yep, every time you go to a cook off or a resturaunt (joint) you're gonna get a piece of bread! Plus, all the other sides(pickles, onions, jalapenos)

That is funny about the bread. My boyfriend is from Dallas (Hillcrest High School for any Dallas people out there) and he does not bat an eye at the bread... But he loves the food and misses BBQ, good tex-mex, etc here in Northern Virginia. We have even flown in BBQ from Houston (swinging door i think) so the idea of living near good BBQ is quite appealing, although he is dieting now in preparation.

If you love a good chicken fried steak, don't forget to hit Threadgills down off Riverside...they have a great Sunday buffet usually with music, but if you can't make it on Sunday, their menu has alot of what they call "Feel good Southern food".
