Cute story, and I wish them well with it. More good barbecue? I say bring it on!

But a nickel a week salary, in 1936? Somebody's fibbin'.

See, that's what makes Texas BBQ a contact sport!

OK, I'm really curious now... why do you like Bill Miller better?

Bill Miller!?!? I thought I was at the shoe hospital last time I had brisket there. The boiled BBQ was tough as shoe leather.

IMO Bill Miller isn't even in the same league as the Lockhart joints on their worst days. Currently, I'm hitting up Stiles Switch on N Lamar for their beef ribs and Thorndale sausage when I want good BBQ in Austin.

I'm all for another good bbq joint in the area. Maybe something for those nice weekends when I'm heading out to the Hill Country for a winery tour.

Surely you meant J. Mueller? Barbecue on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best, and 1 being dog food:

5 - J. Mueller, Blacks, Franklins
4 - Smitty's, Kreutz
3 - Rudy's, Cartwrights, County Line
2 -
1 - Bill Miller, Arby's

When we went to Lockhart to eat at these Famous places we just weren't impressed and thought Bill Miller's was better than what we got. Blacks was so very salty. The place that didn't believe in sauce....well, I want sauce! Maybe we hit off weekends but we decided we did better at Bill Miller. For the record I don't like Salt Lick either. For my taste and value Bill Miller is where I go. I have had some tough meat there at times but over the many years we have eaten there I am usually very happy.
