Gotta start somewhere right...who said "Aim high"? But a starter at $350000 is a bit silly IMHO..

That is the feeling I'm getting as well. I am selling off my property in Chicago to buy a home in Austin, however I think my price range is something that I feel some of the folks on this board may sneer at.

It makes me feel bad, but I'm from the same mindset as Tashina, regarding the "Millionaire Next Door" attitude. I feel safer to live a little bit below my means, because no one, including me, can truely predict the future.

There are plenty of nice areas with older homes for under $200K..heck even under $150K and I would not consider them slums but middle class neighborhoods with families.

That's what I thought as well. However, some of the questions posted on this board make me feel a little uneasy about asking information on any area that isn't in a $300K and up price range.

It's too bad that the board gives off that vibe...I feel it also. It seems like a skewed version of reality that's for sure.

I love your mindset. It's one I try to hold as well. This city is really big on keeping up with the Joneses but I guess that is probably everywhere nowadays. Good luck with your search.

trust me. "middle" income in los angeles is upper class here in texas.

yeah, i agree 100% with your statement. i guess this is how the post civil war southerners felt when the carpetbaggers came in and started ruling over the place. this is why californians are thoroughly reviled in every state that they invade.

Thanks.

I hope I can find an older established neighborhood where I don't feel I have to "Keep up with the Joneses". That is what I am used to now and hope to find in Austin.

Wehotex, don't you think it's all relative? I mean, aren't the pay scales in LA higher too?
