Default Private Schools

Can anyone recommend some good private schools to look at? I'll be looking from 3rd grade thru highschool- hopefully something with strong academics, a good reputation, and a moral/spiritual component? Thanks!

Default Private Schools

Do you have a particular location in mind??

There is a school near me that seems to be really good but I don't have any first-hand information. It's called St. Andrews and it's located at 34th and Shoal Creek.

I have a friend who teaches at St. Andrews. Very good school. Very good. Last time I talked to her there was a waiting list to get in and I believe the cost is about $20K a year. The high school campus is south; the younger kids are central. You can also check out Kirby Hall. I used to know the principal. Not sure about the teaching methods, but people like it.

If you're interested in home-schooling without actually teaching kids at home, there's a fantastic network of opportunities in Austin. I guess you'd call it "open schooling" because it involves no enrollment process, you just pick and choose from all kinds of classes and activities and you can be as involved as you want or you can network with others to have them handle things.

If you want more info on how to connect with that scene, I can try to get you a contact who can tell you more. The hard part about it is finding a centralized source for all the information. There are various websites but they're all limited in scope to a particular group or activity type, or they're just parked domains that are used for advertising and don't help at all.

I've heard GREAT things about several of the private schools in Austin, I think you'll be pleased with them. Also check out the public "charter schools" --- I know kids who went to those and enjoyed them. The Bush twins went to Austin Senior High School, a public school, and they certainly had the money to go private if the Bushes thought it was necessary, so don't rule out some of the better public school districts.

Default Private or public schools...

Private's great if you can afford it.
I know of some parents who are pleased with some surrounding school districts...pleased enough with the districts that they do not have to pay for private...couple of examples I've heard of: Southern part of Leander ISD and Dripping Springs.

musicman:

most people should be able to afford private school they can afford paying for homes at $400,000 they should have a maid and private school with that kind of cash--or they are fooling people and barely scraping by with paying mortgage and have too much house for their finance, which i think is the case for many people today.
