The OP said her husband travels occasionally. I travel occasionally. I would never choose where I live because a city has an airport with more connections than Austin.

As I've said before - if you want to work for a bank or oil company's IT department, running networks and servers, DFW or Houston are better than Austin. But IT is overhead for companies like that. If you want to work where IT is the product (e.g. software), Austin is a much better place.

I would say spend your energy on DFW, "heard" that Coppell is a nice, but no idea.

We lived in Houston for 4 yrs, Austin ~ 5 yrs, we are in IT, DFW suits for senior level positions and travel. About the beaches, the beach places i would like to go in Texas are Corpus christi belt, south padre, Mustang island...etc., Houston beach...don't even consider that.
