IMO there is much less wind, and that makes the winter more tolerable. Usually we just have jacket weather, not coats, scarves, gloves, hats, ice scraper weather KWIM?

Travis county has had 2 tornado deaths in the last 50 years. There was actually one guy who accidentally choked himself to death with his garden hose in 1981, so you might want to worry about that being a possibility too. While we may get an occassional tornado warning in the area, the odds of a tornado actually hitting anything of importance is generally pretty low. By the way, I read that more than 50 tornadoes have been recorded in Los Angeles County since the early 1900's.

Right. Tornados rarely hit anything out here. Austin isn't exactly in tornado alley, although tornado alley starts somewhere North of Georgetown. I've never seen one in the 3 yrs. I've been here, and even before I moved to Colorado and lived in Houston, I only remember 1 tornado touching ground and doing damage and that was in Jarrell sometime in the early to mid 90's. I think you'd have a greater chance experiencing a tornado in Ft. Worth, and even there, the chances are slim. Now, Kansas would be a different story

Here, booz30, this link should keep you busy for a few minutes. Just enter your zip code and go. We'll start with my zip in Austin.

Fly Tornado Paths Using Google Earth

Note: You don't need Google Earth to look at the tornado locations.
