We are moving from Washington state. We are married, husband in IT industry and wife CPA candidate(accounting).

My husband has option to choose from 2 offers- Chase ( in Columbus,Ohio) or GE (Austin,Texas)

We are confused , which would be better option. I will be searching job in whichever place we move.

Our requirements
1) We want to settle in a place which is good for raising family as we will be planning children soon. Also which is good for job opportunities.
2) We want to buy House which is in range of 200k-250k.
3) We want to stay where cost of living is not too high.

Also if you have suggestion regarding which company is better to work with from chase and GE then please suggest.
Please help us decide.

You didn't say which part of WA you're moving from, but I recently (almost 1 1/2 years) moved from Western WA to Austin and have lived in the Great Lakes area as well. I have found the differences between the two areas to be like night and day. In Austin the weather is nice most of the year, Columbus can get cold with a lot of snow during the winter. I currently rent, but homes down here in Austin seem to be cheaper than up north, but as many on this forum will tell you, property taxes are very high here.

I don't personally know how either Chase or GE are as employers, so I can't help you out in that aspect.

Good luck in your decision.

I've known people who work for GE (not in Austin) and they liked it, but it can vary wildly by division, and they have a habit of selling off divisions whenever they feel it necessary.

There will be more competition for CPA jobs here as UT has one of the best accounting programs in the country.

Knowing what part of town your spouse will be working in will help us determine if it's feasible to get a house for under 250k with good schools. Working downtown? Long commute. Working SW or NW? Probably doable.

Cost of living is pretty low for things like food and durable goods. It's higher for housing (property taxes) and transportation, so living close to where you work helps cut down on costs quite a bit.
