I have two felonies, one in 2004 and one in 2009 - neither are violent crimes. I made bad decisions/judgments, but since then I have turned my life around. However, no matter the changes I continue to pay ... and pay ... and pay ... and pay ....

I need to relocate to Austin and need a 3 bedroom 2 bath home, townhouse, condo, duplex. I work near 2244 and Mopac 1. I need to be as close to work as possible. I earn well over 55k ... I just need a home.

If you know of any places, please respond.

I would, but unfortunately I don't know that area. My husband has a friend who was in the same boat with one non violent felony. He bought a house in Pflugerville with the help of a real estate friend.

Congratulations on pulling your life together sufficiently to earn a respectable paycheck--that is a major accomplishment. Have you tried the apartment complexes north of Ben White around Manchaca?

Default Tried Everywhere

Apparently, the fact that I changed my life does not count. I have tried everywhere and cannot find a place to live. I am going to have to quit the best job I have ever had in my career because I cannot find anyone to rent to me.

Having experienced this ... no wonder so many people give up and go back to whatever it was they were doing ....

Have you tried working with a realtor or apartment finder/service? they may be able to help you or guide to to places that would be willing to work with you.

I have tried Realtors, called multiple apartment complexes, even ones in what are considered "bad areas" ... no one will rent to me.

I cannot continue to work here if I cannot find a place to live. I have to have a home. I worked hard to change everything and ended up with a job making 70k plus all paid benefits including a 401k, but I cannot stay here if I cannot find a home.

It is sad and it is breaks my heart. I now understand why so many people in my situation give up and go back to whatever bad habits/addictions they had ...

Do you just ignore suggestions to get that last part of your point in?

There are resources for you to use. Use them.

Also, just about zero private landlords run a criminal check.

IGNORE? No, I have not ignored any suggestions. Every Realtor or Individual I have contacted request an application fee AND a criminal background check fee.

If I indicate I do not have a criminal background and then they run one and find out then I am both a criminal and a liar.

I cannot rely upon the fact that they will not run one, especially when they ask for a fee to run one.

Try a smaller, ghetto apartment complex. There are plenty in Round Rock off the 35 and Gattis School Road. Can't be picky until you have a repertoire of on time payments and can get some reputable references from landlords.
