Hey Everyone,

Thanks in advance for any advice. I am 34 yo and will be moving to Austin from Chicago for work. I have been very lucky to have my job take me to places like Chicago, Santa Monica, West Palm Beach, and Miami. I would like to live in a hip/trendy location that is not filled with college kids, but has plenty to do. I have around 1500-1800/month to spend on rent. I will be working in West Hills, but am happy to commute from the city. Thaks for all your help!!

Look around Rainey St. You'll fit right in.

After doing some more research I think I need to clarify, what would be a nice spot outside of downtown that still has things going on, but is close enough to go to the city when you want. Thanks in advance

A self-bump in an hour and a half...might be a record.

Bumping is a violation of the TOS. And after only an hour and a half I think it's a ridiculous violation of the TOS.

If you had read the TOS you would also know what additional information to provide in order to get the best feedback here.

It's at the top of the page. I recommend you read it now.

Searching past posts will reveal some pretty good info.

Austin doesn't have multiple urban "districts" to choose from. Downtown is really it. The Domain offers a mixed use setting which I think is pretty good if you need to be north. Even Hill Country Galleria way west in Bee Cave has a Domain-like set of apartments. And there is Mueller which some like, others despise. Also the "Far West" area of NW Austin, where shuttle buses for UT run, has a lot of young people and condos/apartments for rent but no real "night life".

North of UT campus (Hyde Park) has lots of mixed residential/apartment/condo living with some coffee shops and small restaurants.

But noplace has the high concentration of stuff that downtown does. I don't think you can get there with a $1,500 budget housing though.

Go onto AustinHomeSearch.com and you can search condos and houses for rent and get an idea of what's out there. If looking for an apartment, an apartment locator company (free service) can be very helpful in helping you find the right area.

Good luck.

steve
