Well my boyfriend and I were in Austin from Sunday at noon until Tuesday morning. We intended to leave Wednesday but had some issues back at home surrounding our dog care and had to return early. We accomplished almost everything we wanted to so returning early was not a problem.

We had a much different experience than we did last time which was almost exactly a year ago. We both thought it was prettier than we did last year (maybe all the rain helped with the greenery?) with nicer neighborhoods than we remembered. We think the realtors we worked with this time were much more on our page and helped in terms of showing us houses that we liked quite a bit. We even had time to check out Gtown which we decided was nice, but not for us. We liked many areas in Central Austin including Tarrytown and SoCo and even NW Hills.

We also liked all the outdoor cafes/eateries and the weather helped. We both realize it is MUCH hotter and muggier in the summer.

We did not think the traffic was bad, compared to our DC traffic. We left our hotel on Monday at 5:10 to catch a 5:25 movie (Hyatt Regency to Barton Creek Mall) and had to get on Mopac and still made it. That never would have happened in DC.

We think staying right on the lake was also a plus as the bf got to run on the trails which he liked quite a lot.

Again, the food was great as we both love tex-mex and Southern food.

Overall our impression was very favorable and we hope to make the move as soon as we can unload our houses in Northern Virginia.

Thanks for all of the advice and insight. It was very helpful,
