Default Happy news and area question!

We've been talking with my parents about making the move to Austin with us and I thought for sure we would be there a few years before they came out. My Dad called today and said he got a job and they are moving in a couple months!! We won't even be applying for a job until May. Anyhow, we are so excited!!
They want to live near his job, which is on Metric Ave. somewhere. What is that area like? We drove through but don't remember the general vibe. Any description of this general area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks They will be renting by the way.

Glad he is moving! I have only driven Metric a couple of time cause dh works at IBM but I remember thinking it was not a place for me and my family. Give it a drive this weekend and see if it is something that your folks would like.

The Metric area is very industrial and the areas to the East of it are not somewhere I'd want to live. However, there are decent neighborhoods in close proximity to it. Check out the 78758 and 78759 zip codes. I particularly like the area West of Mopac off of Duval, but if they want something newer, Avery Ranch off Palmer is close as well.

I'd second Avery Ranch. That's a nice area.

Depends on what you are looking for. Scoffield Farms is very close, mostly Newmark and Weekly homes. Across MoPac, check out the Balcones woods and Champions Crossing neighborhoods for older houses but nice with great trees. I lived in Champions crossing for years and loved it. It is also pretty close to an 'HOA free zone', but it is maintained nicely.

Wells Branch area is a good option.
It's sort of South Round Rock i.e. nothing like central Austin, but it is nearby Metric Avenue but still safe and has good, big, affordable suburban homes.

We lived briefly in an apartment on Parmer and Mopac and drove through the Scoffield Farms area a few times. Very nicely maintained and lots of older trees. The neighborhood near the library (Parmer and Amherst) is probably one of the ones that Trainwreck mentions and that was pretty. There's a park with a trail and a gorgeous stream there (when it's raining...no idea what it's like now). Nice homes, well kept and a nicer library than we have down here at Oak Hill IMO.
