New affordable housing bond election set for November - Community Impact Newspaper

The Austin City Council is trying to say that we have a shortage of low income residents in Austin, and we need to go buy ourselves some. They are a precious resource, and we can't afford to lose them to the suburbs.

Another year, another Govt. Subsidized Housing Bond Election. Rinse & Repeat.

Good to hear that they plan to "educate" me this year. Per the news story, this bond will provide housing for for women with mean ex-husbands, maypole dancing children, cute puppy dogs & under-employed musicians who pass the "cool band" test.

Welcome to Austin. There's going to be liberalism and some policy makers with far-left thinking.
I wish they weren't hypocrites about it -- in other words, you won't see the people trying to force these laws actually living next door to low-income.

Yeah, and a lot of the liberals who vote on these issues leave town after they graduate.

Why should it be different than any other "bond proposal" (aka tax increase)? They'll just putting it on the ballot, rewording it, until it finally passes. Kind of like light rail.

I propose the new affordable community be built next door to the mayor's house in Tarrytown.

Ironically, at the same time, they've plans to have Code Compliance go around and inspect all apartments.

That's sure to rack up lots of unnecessary costs for owners (and thus tenants), especially on older properties where most of the affordable housing currently exists.
