My hubby is in the military and we have had a chance to see Austin, We fell in love and seemed like such a great area to raise our son. Only hold up is our family is in so cal (mind you we have a pretty disfunctional fam...but what fam isnt I guess ...So what would you do??...Stay back to be with family or move and start a new journey?? Thanks everyone!!

Jazzedforhim started a very long thread on this as they were contemplating a move that didn't get to happen yet as it turns out. We moved back to Texas to be near family, but it ends up that we don't see them any more than we did when we were away. My family is dysfunctional too If we need to see family or they need to see us, we figure that's what Trains, Planes and Automobiles were made for

I agree with love roses...check prior threads for very good discussions. Someone, if I recall correctly, from Baltimore (adiosBaltimore might have been their username) started a very good thread on the same topic.
We left family behind in Scottsdale. We felt the benefits of living in Austin vastly outweighed the family factor in AZ. But for us, the ONLY reason to stay in AZ would have been for my parents, and all other other factors weighed in favor of Austin, so it was a clear choice. We couldn't be happier!

So I assume you just make it so that your able to go home to see your parents often, its so hard because you want to be with them as they get older, but then it would be the only reason you stay...so that is my exact situation...lol Good to know I am not the only one with this issue!

My family lives in Austin and as of right now I don't see them anymore than when I lived out of town anyway. Go figure that.

Is it your family that is disfunctional or some family members that makes it disfunctional? If it's family members and you want to make things right, its best to move away from that before your own family crumbles! Yes Austin has great schools and lot of kiddo things to do.
